Andretti Green Racing
With a name that is synonymous with auto racing success throughout the world, Michael Andretti competed for 19 years in the CART series before moving to the IRL IndyCar Series in 2003. The accomplishments of team partners Andretti, Green and Savoree combined include an Indianapolis 500 win (Jacques Villeneuve, 1995), two CART championships (Andretti, 1991 and Villeneuve, 1995) and CART all-time records for the most career wins, most wins in a single season, most career starts, most pole positions and most laps led (Andretti).
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing
Having spent his entire career in automotive retail, Dennis Reinbold is the principal of Indianapolis-based Dreyer & Reinbold, Inc. Reinbold's grandfather, the legendary "Pop" Dreyer, is recognized as one of the early icons of open-wheel racing. This season's drivers are Robbie Buhl and Sarah Fisher.
Hemelgarn Racing
Ron Hemelgarn became known in racing by sponsoring the cars of Dick Simon (1978-79), Spike Gelhausen and Josele Garza (1980) before he purchased the Primus team in 1984 and created Hemelgarn Racing.
Marlboro Team Penske
Roger Penske has been racing and winning in the United States since 1958 and has scored victories in every series in which he has competed. With 18 national championships, including 11 in Indy-style racing. Back-to-back Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves will team with two-time IRL champ Sam Hornish to chafer the Penske cars in 2004.
Panther Racing
After being formed in 1998, Indianapolis-based Pennzoil Panther Racing enjoyed success early with wins at Phoenix and Texas in 1999 and at the 2000 season finale at Texas. With second-year driver Sam Hornish Jr. as the driver in 2001, the team won the coveted IRL IndyCar Series championship by 105 points and earned three wins (Phoenix, Homestead-Miami and Texas 2). The impressive season included 11 top-five finishes and 12 top-10 finishes.
Target Chip Ganassi Racing
He stormed onto the national racing scene in the 1982 Indianapolis 500, where he became the fastest rookie qualifier and finished 15th. Chip Ganassi has not slowed down since that day. His resume, with numerous impressive accomplishments both inside and outside of the racing world, reads like a record book.
Team Menard
In 2002, Team Menard continued its string of consecutive seasons with at least one MBNA Pole. Team Menard leads the IRL IndyCar Series all-time in pole positions with 24, 15 more than its closest competitor. It also has recorded seven front-row starts and three pole positions at the famed Indianapolis 500.
Team Rahal
Team Rahal is headed by owner and retired champion driver Bobby Rahal and racing aficionado David Letterman. The team traces its origin back to the formation of Rahal/Hogan Racing in 1992 when Rahal realized a lifelong dream by forming his own race team. A three-time CART champion (1986, 1987 and 1992) as a driver, Rahal became the first rookie owner-driver in series history to capture a championship when he led his team to four victories and the season title in the team's inaugural season (1992).
Dale Coyne Racing
Long time CART competitor Dale Coyne continues into the 2003 season with drivers Gualter Salles and Geoff Boss.
Newman/Haas Racing
Since it's first season in 1983, Newman/Haas Racing has collected many wins, poles and track records with talented drivers such as Mario and Michael Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Paul Tracy, Christian Fittipaldi and Cristiano da Matta. These are the results that enabled the team to be called the second most successful in the history of CART.
